Marvelous! The female superhero film Captain Marvel has broke records! Looking at China alone, the film scored $89.3 million which is 43% ahead of Black Panther! The film scored $455 million globally and $153 million in the United States making it the biggest worldwide opening of all time for a female-fronted film and the second largest for a comic book adaptation.
It is the sixth-best worldwide movie of all time, and the international opening of $302 million is the fifth-biggest ever. The audience for the film was very diverse with 48 percent Caucasian, 20 percent Hispanic, 17 percent African-American and 15 percent Asian/Other.
Disney’s distribution chief, Cathleen Taff expressed,"Marvel Studios once again proves that stories combining diverse perspectives and different experiences make great movies that play to everybody. People crave representation."
Captain Marvel is a female superhero based on the Marvel Comics character Carol Danvers. The story follows Carol Danvers as she becomes Captain Marvel and finds herself caught in the middle of a battle between her people and the evil Skrulls. She uses her special powers to try and end the war.
The film is produced by Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the twenty first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are the writers and directors. The star who plays Captain Marvel is Brie Larson. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Annette Bening, Clark Gregg, Jude Law and Rune Tempt.
