Last year, news broke out that Childish Gambino and Rihanna would co-star together in a new film titled, 'Guava Island'. Now, the highly anticipated feature from director Hiro Murai will officially debut during Coachella's livestream this Saturday night of the festival's opening weekend.
With Gambino working alongside the director who also helmed his award-winning "This Is America" music video and numerous episodes of his hit TV series 'Atlanta', Murai's involvement suggests 'Guava Island' could possibly be a short film or visual album in the vein of Beyonce's "Lemonade", though the project is officially billed "A Childish Gambino Film". The film set and shot on location in Cuba, follows a narrative that finds Donald Glover and Rihanna's characters in a relationship and Glover's character getting kidnapped.
The film will also feature 'The Black Panther' star Letitia Wright and 'Game Of Thrones' actor Nonso Anozie. We're sad we won't be flying out to the west coast to see 'Guava Island' at Coachella, but we sure will be tuned in to Youtube this weekend to watch Childish Gambino and Rihanna on the big screen together. Check out the music audio from the 'Guava Island' advertisement on Spotify below and let us know if you will be watching as well!
