Chinese Sci-Fi, ‘The Wandering Earth’ Makes A Landing On Netflix [VIDEO]

The movie The Wandering Earth has recently came out in the Chinese sci-fi blockbuster and has became the number two film ever in China. The movie has earned over $610 million since the film has been released during the Chinese New Year.

The film revolves around the imminent explosion of the sun, which prompts humanity to attempt to propel planet earth outside of the solar system to find a new celestial home in deep space. Set in the distant future, China plays a key leadership role in world affairs and helps drive the survival mission.

Netflix has been increasing their Chinese content and has obtained rights to streaming the film. The manager of content acquisition on Netflix, Jerry Zhang, stated “Netflix is committed to providing entertainment lovers with access to a wide variety of global content. With its high-quality production and storytelling, we believe that The Wandering Earth will be loved by sci-fi fans around the world.”

It is directed and written by Frant Gwo who expressed “This is a movie created for the Chinese audience around the world, and it has been positively received since its premiere, we are very excited about it. To my surprise, this movie also resonates outside Mainland China. Netflix will translate it into 28 languages, enabling more viewers to enjoy it regardless of geographical and linguistic differences.”
