Disney is exploring the idea of a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' reboot, according to Deadline. The franchise studio is in talks with Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, who are the writers behind the first two Deadpool movies as well as Zoombieland. The studio is in early talks about the script.
It has not been reported that Johnny Depp will be in the sequel, or if any of the other, characters will remain. However, Jerry Bruckheimer will return as the producer of the reboot.
The first 5 pirate movies grossed over $4.5 billion, over the last 14 years. The reboot will be a good way for older fans and the newer generation to relive to excitement of the original movies.
