As you may have heard, Idris Elba was in the talks to take over Will Smith’s Deadshot character in Warner Bros’ Suicide Squad 2. However, news broke out that Idris will now play a different character in the movie.
It was reported earlier that Will Smith will not be returning due to scheduling conflicts. Idris was immediately a thought to join the team. Without hesitation, Idris agreed to be in the upcoming film. Warner Bros. and director James Gunn decided to remove the Deadshot character in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie rather than replace actor Will Smith with Idris Elba. With Idris playing a different role and character, this means Smith has the opportunity to make an appearance in the future.
Director and writer of the film is James Gunn along with producers Peter Safran and Charles Roven. The original three characters Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller will be returning. Harley Quinn is played by Margot Robbie, followed by Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The first Suicide Squad movie hit theaters in 2016 and became one of the biggest films grossing at $746 million worldwide.
