Jay-Z, Will Smith and Aaron Kaplan are working with ABC to develop Women of the Movement -- which is an anthology series that chronicles the civil rights movement told by the women behind it.
Jay-Z, Smith and Kaplan are producing the series that comes from writer Marissa Jo Cerar.
Jay Brown, Tyran “Ty Ty” Smith, James Lassiter, Dana Honor, Rosanna Grace, Alex Foster, John Powers and David Clark are producers in the series. The first eight-episode season will focus on Emmett Till's mother Mamie Till. She devoted her life to seeking justice for her son who was a 14 year old African American who was lynched after being accused of offending a white woman in the grocery store.
Producers wanted to focus on the women of the civil rights movement and believe Mamie Till was one of the women who fought for equality and justice.
We think it is great to shed light on Mamie Till's story and her journey to receive justice for her son!
