NBC has renewed ‘Law & Order: SVU’ for the 21st season making it the longest-running primetime drama ever in television history! For 20 years ‘Law & Order: SVU’ has been capturing fans hearts and will continue to do so! There is no one to thank, but producer Dick Wolf and the entire SVU team!
‘Law & Order: SVU’ will exceed Law & Order (1990-2010), and CBS' Gunsmoke (1955-1975). Not only is the drama series making history, so are the characters! Executive producer and Emmy Award-winning actress Mariska Hargitay will return to the new season making her character Lt. Olivia Benson the longest-running female character in a live-action primetime series. Hargitay expressed her gratitude and appreciation to be a part of the series and being able to make history.
Wolf stated, "As SVU moves into its third decade, Mariska has become an iconic figure as a star, advocate and crusader for women. She is an enduring champion of the movement to end sexual violence, and dozens of episodes have dealt with the very same issues that have shifted into the spotlight in this country in the past two years.”
The series first premiered in 1999 where detectives that are part of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence. The cast of the drama includes Ice T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino and Philip Winchester.
The show has connected with their viewers and fans for over 20 years by telling powerful stories. Take a look at the clip below to see what you can look forward to in season 21!
