The cast for MGM's Aretha Franklin biopic Respect has been finalized! Many celebrities will join Jennifer Hudson -- who will play the leading role of Aretha Franklin. The celebrities include Mary J. Blige, Marlon Wayans, Forest Whitaker, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess, Heather Headley and Tate Donovan!
For me, I think this is a very unique and diverse group of actors and actresses who will portray Franklin's career. Each cast member is very talented and I believe will add their own spice to the biopic. Jennifer Hudson was a great choice to play Franklin considering her vocals and range is out of this world! I love that r&b singer Mary J. Blige will play the Queen of Blues -- Dinah Washington. I'm interested to see Marlon Wayans transition from his usual comical roles to take on a more serious character as Aretha's first husband. Nonetheless, I believe this biopic will be amazing and each cast member will play their role to perfection!
The biopic will follow the rise Franklin's career from a child singing in her father's church choir to her becoming one of the greatest of all time! Aretha has been hailed the Queen of Soul and won over 18 Grammys. She sold 75 million albums over the course of her career and will forever be one of the most celebrated women in history!
Production begins November 1st and the biopic will be released on August 14th 2020. We are super excited especially since production has exclusive rights to Franklin's hits! We can't wait to watch!
What do you think about the celebrities who joined the cast? Do you think they will do a good job of telling Aretha Franklin's story? Let us know!
