Sheila Nevins, the new head of MTV Documentary Films division, has set two new projects -- 17 Blocks and the short St. Louis Superman.
The first film 17 Blocks is directed by Emmy winner Davy Rothbart. The film follows an African-American family who lives blocks away from the White House in Washington, D.C. The second project, St. Louis Superman, is a short film directed by Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan that revolves around Congressman and rapper-activist Bruce Franks Jr., who was elected to the overwhelmingly white and Republican Missouri House of Representatives.
Both films will expose, focus and explore racial injustice. Nevins stated, “At the heart of American democracy, there is an injustice that gnaws at the soul of the have-nots and Davy Rothbart’s 17 Blocks and Smitri Mundhra and Sami Khan’s St. Louis Superman are two films that expose both the injustices and courage of Americans who survive against almost insurmountable odds.MTV Documentary Films foray begins with these two impactful films.”
The films will release THIS fall! Tune in and we’ll be back with an update. But for now, let us know what you think!
