Netflix has acquired the rights for a full length documentary on Cyntoia Brown’s incarceration and fight for clemency.
The documentary will be directed by Daniel H. Birman who first heard her story in Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story which aired in 2011 as a part of PBS’ Independent Lens series.
The documentary will include every detail and still-ongoing updates from the case, beginning in 2004 to Cyntoia’s release from prison set to take place in August of this year. At age 16, Brown was arrested for murdering a 43-year-old man who solicited her for sex. Cyntoia was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. After 10 years of legal challenges, Governor Bill Haslam granted her request for clemency. He recognized her maturity, education and good behavior as a prisoner.
Brown’s case has gained the attention of many people including ourselves. We will be watching when the documentary is released, will you? Let us know.
