Drama is on the big screen as the Oscars have cut four categories that will be presented during commercial breaks. The four categories are cinematography, film editing, live action short and makeup and hairstyling. These categories are key to creating a film which is why many film fans are asking, WHY?

The Academy president, John Bailey, explained the awards this year will be presented during commercial breaks, with their winning speeches aired later in the broadcast as a way to keep the awards to three hours. He adds, “with the help of our partners at ABC, we will also stream these four award presentations online for our global fans to enjoy, live, along with our audience.”

The controversy has filmmakers such as Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón voicing their opinion on social media.

The Oscars will air live on Sunday, February 24th at 8pm. Will you be tuned in this year?
